I am a second generation therapist, having followed in my Mother’s footsteps. I have two wild and amazing children of my own. I decided to specialize in working with mothers after coming to the deep realization that moms are so often burning the candle at both ends trying to manage an unrelenting stream of tasks—some rewarding and some not—that leaves us stressed and with little to no time for ourselves (you guessed it--I learned this the hard way). Motherhood can be totally overwhelming and modern society has stripped us of the community support systems that once came with raising children. When we are stressed out and not taking time to do the things that light us up, it’s so much harder to show up as the calm, compassionate parents (…partners, friends, professionals, etc) that we want to be.
I genuinely love learning about all things pregnancy, birth, child development, postpartum, and parenting, so it is a joy for me to get to work with mothers. As mothers, we often share some common experiences, but we also all have our own individual and distinct struggles. As a therapist, I consider it my main job to help you learn to find and trust your own intuition so you can filter external inputs and increase your ability to make decisions with confidence and sturdy self leadership. I also place emphasis on helping clients develop their capacity to tolerate and regulate strong emotions because let’s be honest, we’ve all found ourselves triggered by our kids at some point , maybe lots of points, and we deserve support to get through these moments.
I believe in the importance of the collaborative relationship between client and therapist. I’m also very open to your feedback…in fact, I will check in with you regularly about it! I don’t want something in our therapeutic relationship to stand in the way of you doing the important self work that you want to do. I do not believe in the outdated notion of the therapist as the “expert.” You are the expert on your life, how things feel for you, what is helpful and what isn’t.
I have a master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy and Practice in Clinical Social Work (2014). I am currently licensed as an independent clinical social worker in PA and MA.
I draw upon several therapeutic approaches/ modalities in my work, primarily Internal Family Systems, Polyvagal Theory, Family Systems Theory, and Narrative Therapy. My work around parenting is also greatly informed and enhanced by the amazing work of Dr. Becky and the team at Good Inside. If you have questions about these modalities please do not hesitate to ask.
